How to Brush a Doodle: Prevent Mats Close to the Skin
A doodle coat can look smooth on the surface while loose hair and tangles are building closer to the skin. A slicker brush that only skims the outer coat can leave those deeper tangles untouched, especially behind the ears, under a collar or harness, in the armpits, and around the legs and tail.
Line brushing works in small sections from the skin outward, and a metal comb is the check that tells you whether the full coat depth is actually clear. If the comb stops or snags, that section still needs work even when the surface looks brushed.
